MC34845 current capability

Hi,

    I am looking at the MC34845 datasheet and I was wondering why it can only handle total of 180mA (30mA per channel) when it has a 2.1A Boost switch?

    His brother MC34844 has a 2.5A boost switch and it is able to manipulate 80mA per channel. It is true that MC34845 can only manipulate backlight of 180mA?

Hello,

Thank you for writing.

Unfortunately, it is true that the MC34845 can only handle a total of 180 mA.

The main difference between his brother, is because the MC34844 can drive 10 outputs. That is why the MC34844 has higher boost output.
