Code Warrior

I'm looking at perhaps getting the Wytec USBDM which already comes with V4.9 firmware installed according to the web page. If I want to use this purely for loading StickOS onto a MCF51JM128EVLK, do I need Code Warrior or can I get away without it? I won't be doing anything other than loading StickOS, so presumably I won't need to compile anything, as StickOS already has the Hex files.

If I decided to make my own USBDM JS16 minimal MC9S08JS16CWJ.(for use with the above processor) instead of buying one, would I need Code Warrior to load the firmware into the USBDM?

Thanks

Dear Grant,

If you install the USBDM software then you would be able to program target micros using the utilities included.  This does not require Codewarrior.

Programming a completely blank JS16 micro (on a USBDM) is possible using the JS16 bootloader included in the USBDM software.

It  would be difficult to build a BDM cheaper than buying the Wytec one I would think?

Thanks for the fast response PGO, especially over the Christmas period. That sounds good that I can use the USBDM software.

Yes the Wytec is very cheap, though postage is likely the killer to get it around the other side of the globe - plus a 3-4 week wait. I already have all the bits handy in through-hole form, except the micro (have an SMD-DIP adaptor to suit) and 74LV125 which can be obtained in DIP, so still tossing it around. I assume I can use 74ACT125 etc. so long as Target is always 5V like MCF51JM128EVLK?

Thanks for sharing your work.

Hi Grant,

You are correct about the 74ACT125 or similar - providing you are using 5V.

Does the BL pin have to be pulled low to initially load program the BDM chip? I'm not quite clear on this.

Hi grant,

For a JS16 chip I presume?

To load the initial software you hold BL low while plugging in the BDM.

To update the firmware this is not necessary.

Thanks pgo, you've been really helpful, I'll have to RTFM a bit better I think!
