Companies and consumers alike are excited about the opportunities offered by the IoT and the Smart Home. Concerns on user-friendliness and security are however holding potential customers back: how can I install it? , what if my neighbor hacks into my network? NFC technology addresses these cost, ease of use and security concerns by offering short distance out-of-band pairing capabilities that reduce the complex commissioning system to a simple 'tap'. Customers active in hospitality, home readers or any application connecting to a smartphone or tablet are faced with the challenge of guarantying system interoperability with all smartphones on the market today. The answer is given as an NFC and BLE turnkey solution - NXP’s NFC/BLE reference design (OM27462NBR) based on the PN7462 and the QN902x Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy family.

NFC pairing makes life in a multi-device world more convenient. Tap-to-pair has become a common habit when connecting an NFC-enabled smartphone conveniently to a wireless speaker. Bringing this experience to the next level, even a multi-speaker audio system can be set up with NFC. If all speakers are equipped with an NFC chip, you simply tap one speaker to another to establish the Bluetooth® connection. That's what we call a true wireless stereo system - and it works with any phone, no matter if it is NFC-enabled. Same use case can be shown with NFC headsets. The workshop will guide participants through the implementation of an NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing use case. All participants should bring an NFC Enabled Android Device running Android version (Kit Kat) 4.4x or higher. In addition please install "NFC TagWriter" and "NFC TagInfo" from the Google Play Store.

This session offers deep understanding of buck regulator performance and its reliability aspect. Buck regulator is the most widely used topology. Once the system power need is calculated, identifying the right power management chip is critical to a project's success. Session attendees should be able to identify and review critical DC-DC converter specifications and choose the best power solution based on their need. Calculating/selecting the passives and discrete around the buck regulator to create a robust design is discussed. Finally, measurement of key parameters to ensure the thermal, and loop stability is shared.
