Hello,

I’m currently working with a client who wants to read MIFARE tags using a mobile phone. We have successfully managed to read the tags, but during our tests, we noticed that the reading process is not entirely stable. For instance, out of 50 consecutive reads of the same tag on the same phone, two failed.

Is there a way to stabilize the reading process for large-scale use? We’re looking at approximately 8,000 readings per day by non-technical users on standard mobile devices.

In your opinion, using mobile phones for MIFARE tag reading in a professional environement —with significant financial implications— is a reliable solution?

Additionally, how can we improve both the stability of the reading process and the writing process?

Information about the Tag that we are using:

tag: ISO 14443-3A
NXP- Mifare Classic 4k

ATQA
0x0002

SAK
0x18

Thank you very much for your support
Best Regards

It depends on the antenna on your smart phone. You better to know the position of the reader antenna on your phone. The antenna should be place near on the tag. And the distance between the tag and your phone when reading/writing also affected the stability.

Hello,

reading the tag depends on the size of the smartphone antenna, the size of the tag. Do you read the tag content or just the ID?

Thanks,

Vincent
