I had some door knocker salesmen around today from Smart Energy wanting to talk about solar panels. I'm interested in solar but don't have the funds to invest up front and they said something about a govt funded scheme with $0 upfront.
Naturally I'm very sceptical. Would love to hear from anyone who has dealt with them.

Sometimes a "$0 upfront" pitch actually means a third-party company puts panels on your roof for free, but they own the system. You don't get the clean energy equity, and instead, you are locked into a long-term contract (often 20 to 25 years) buying the power they generate. These can make selling your home complicated later.
