Hello,
I want to replace my SA1105Q with an SJA1105S. Is this possible without changing the hardware and firmware? Can I directly mount the SJA1105S onto the SJA1105Q board?
1. Hardware: I checked the datasheets for the SJA1105S and SJA1105Q and found they are different. SGMII Digital: 1.14~1.32V, typical 1.2V SJA1105Q: VDD(MII) MII Supply typical Voltage: 1.8V
2. Firmware: What are the differences in the firmware BSP? Do I need to modify it?
Hello
On our existing SJA1105Q PCB, Port 4 is unused. L8/L10/L11 are already tied to GND. N12 is tied to GND, while N8 is NC, and some R/S-only VSS balls (N7, N9, P6, P7) are NC. Can SJA1105SEL be directly assembled on this PCB without hardware modification?
Hello @Yubang1006 ,
The SJA1105SEL cannot be directly assembled on the existing SJA1105Q PCB without hardware modification, even if Port 4 is unused.
SJA1105Q and S are not pin compatible. The PCB would need to be modified, e.g. dedicated VSS balls on the SJA1105S must be connected to ground. Chapter 2.5.1.3 Unused xMII Interface specifies how unused SGMII shall be handled.
Regarding firmware, the SJA1105Q and SJA1105S use the same switch-core device ID. If Port 4 is already disabled in the existing configuration and the software does not check the device-specific part number or access the Port 4 xMII/SGMII registers, the existing firmware configuration may remain applicable. Nevertheless, the software should be checked for any explicit dependency on the SJA1105Q part number.
Best regards,
Pavel
