RTC PCF2131 EPAD Connection

Hello,

could you shed some light on the changed requirement for the connection of the exposed pad of the PCF2131 real time clock IC(CIN# 202411003I)?

Updated the Section 3.2: changed from “center pad must
be connected to ground (VSS)” to “central pad must be left
floating”.

Because we have two boards (6 Layers/10 Layers) in production which were designed according to the previous Application note which stated that it must be connected to VSS.

We need to know the impact this has on our devices, e.g. do we have to throw away the already produced boards?

I intend to do so, but do you have any information why it was changed?

We need to know how we need to handle the boards that are already manufactured with the EPAD connected to the GND plane.

Still suggest you do rework for your two pieces board to meet the new change about EP connection.
