One particular wave of innovation in the world of ARM is an increase in heterogeneous CPU designs, where different classes of ARM processor are implemented on the same device. NXP are at the forefront of this wave. For example the i.MX 7 family of devices implement both a Cortex-A7 application processor and a Cortex-M4 embedded processor.
