Hi @pjred13
MPC555LF4MZP40 is old revision K2.
MPC555LFMZP40 is probably latest revision M but it could be also older K3.
The problem is that mask set version is not explicitly mentioned in the part number in case of these old devices.
Older revision Rev K3 stopped shipping WW19/WW20 2005 (WW stands for work week). Only Rev M is shipped after that (talking about general part numbers, not 'SC...' versions).
In case of doubts, the best way is to read IMMR register to check the PARTNUM and MASKNUM. Then you can compare it with this table:

All these revisions have different errata lists:
https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/errata/MPC555MCE.pdf
https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/errata/MPC555K3CE.pdf
https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/errata/MPC555K2CE.pdf
If you are going to replace one revision with another, it's necessary to compare the errata and re-validate the product.
Newer revisions fix some errata and there are some minor enhancements, so we can't guarantee that it's 100% compatible replacement.

Lukas

Hi Lukas,

@lukaszadrapa  From what code date can we be sure (at 200% !) that an MPC555LFMZP40 has an M mask (MASKNUM=0x40). Do microcontroller with Freescale marking have only the M mask ? Are all Motorola manufactured devices clearely identified with the mask revision (either by MPC555LF4MZP40 or MPC555LF8MZP40 or maskset number).

Thanks a lot,

Kind regards,
FX D

Hi @fxdurieux

attached is product change notification which explicitly talks about MPC555LFMZP40 issued on 9th May 2005. All the devices with this part number manufactured after this date are rev M.

After this date, K3 revision was available only as customer specific part number starting with SC...

Lukas

Hi @fxdurieux

direct customers have an access to our PCN system, distribution customers should get their PCN and PDN from their distributor.
MPC555 Product Discontinuance was issued just two days ago, effective date Feb 13, 2024.
Last time buy date is 12th Aug 2024, last time delivery date is 12th Aug 2025.
