Hello all

I read/understood from previous posts  the devkit MPC 5748 can be bricked by reset escalation with no recovery and chip /cpu replacement the only solution due to its protection architecture circuit  being unrecoverable,(probably a blown fuse type of circuit ).

My question is about the MPC 5744 dev board ,does this also have simular architecture/protection circuit that has the possibility of being bricked with no easy recovery ?

thanks

Hello,

Well, you are talking about 2 different things.

1. reset escalation -> which will only force device into permanent reset state until Power on is triggered. (mostly caused by inappropriate SWT handling). It is easy to recover from this state.

2. Brick device due to security violation (mostly on device with HSM) when user is not aware of security mechanisms and create ECC fault in HSM (hardware security machine) exclusive memory space. This is considered as side attack and therefore the device is locked to prevent SW stealing/modify.

My question is about the MPC 5744 dev board ,does this also have simular architecture/protection circuit that has the possibility of being bricked with no easy recovery ?

No, MPC5744P does not implement security modules, except censorship feature where the user has possibility lock the JTAG access by password. But even on locked device the SW still runs.

Best regards,

Peter
