Hello @user_ahmed, Good Day!

Thank you very much for your interest in our products.

The PN7161 supports a card emulation mode on which it can be addressed as an NFC Forum T4T, ISO/IEC 14443A, MIFARE, or ISO/IEC 14443B card, by using an NFC enabled device such as an iOS device or Android from versions 11 to 13. Please refer to PN7160 card emulation.

Unfortunately, the peer-to-peer mode of the PN7161 cannot be used with an iPhone since this functionality has never been supported by iOS devices. Support of this mode by an Android device is fully dependent on the specific phone to be used.

Please note as well that since Android 12, P2P functionality is not included by default in the android main package. For this reason, NXP has stopped the maintenance of the P2P functionality on this NFC Reader products PN7160 and PN7161 from firmware 12.50.0A onwards.

My best regards,
Daniel

"Thanks for your reply. So if I understand correctly, my conclusion is that I need a third-party application (such as an NFC app from the Play Store) to enable peer-to-peer communication on Android. However, if I use the same type of application on an iPhone, I won’t be able to make peer-to-peer work."

Hello @user_ahmed, Good Day!

As the peer-to-peer functionality depends on the Android version, please refer to official Android support alternatives, to figure out how implementation could be possible. For further details on the NFC available functionalities on iOS you may refer to iOS support forums.

My best regards,
Daniel
