like the simplicity of the new MCXC041

noted the evkit has a RTC crystal, I assume it is optional, but would like to understand in what scenarios it is needed. I'm mainly after the lowest possible power consumption with wake on gpio -> uart message. no strict timing requirements.

Hi dav1,

MCXC041 on-chip RTC precesion is not that high. It may be impacted by some factors like temperture, voltage fluctuation, etc.While external RTC can provide more stable and accturate clock.
So if user's application needs high precision RTC, we suggest using external RTC clock.
