Peripherals Tool: selecting ADC trigger source

Hello,

ADC of LPC55xx is quite a complex device. The conversion process is very customizable using trigger sources and conversion commands. Peripherals Tool supports ADC configuration.

Sadly, the tool is sometimes not helpful at all.

For example with regard to configuring "trigger number":

Peripherals tool does not explain what "trigger number" means. It does not even mention "trigger source" as the manual calls them. I assume "trigger number" relates to trigger sources "TRIG, 0" - "TRIG, 3" that are configurable in Pins tool for each ADC:

I can only hope that trigger number 0 associates with "TRIG,0". Is that correct?

However, hoping is not something that engineers should do. To this effect I feel "abandoned" by the tool.

  • The tool provides no information about the range of valid input values.
  • It accepts values that should be clearly "illegal", as there are only 4 trigger sources according to the reference manual.
  • The tool does not warn when the value refers a trigger source that has not been configured in Pins tool.
  • Instead of providing a text field for input, there should be a drop down select box where the user can select the hardware trigger source by name (not by a nondescript number) and select only from the available inputs.

I would like to see this improved in future versions of that tool.

Cheers,
Daniel
