Is there a way to update LPCXpresso to the latest release without having to manually re-install all my Eclipse plugins?

I have only just noticed there (now, with 7.9.2) is an import wizard for the previously installed plugins, but for me updating from 7.5.0 it simply hangs until I cancel it.

If you have your old installation, you can import all the plugins in the old installation into your new installation by doing this:
File->Import
Select the Install category and "From existing installation" and then point at your existing install

Your existing plugins should then be added to your new install.

This should work on all platforms.

Thanks for the clarification about the update sequence!
One item less to worry about now.

Best regards,

With regards to your original question regarding additional Eclipse plugins - then if you are using LPCXpresso under Windows then I am afraid that you will need to reinstall those plugins into your new LCXpresso install. On the Mac, this is a bit nicer, because the first time you start the new version of LPCXpresso, the underlying Eclipse on Mac can detect the plugins from the previous version and offer to install them automatically for you.

I was trying to update the Linux edition 7.5 to 7.9, and the "Import wizard" was displayed, but failed to do anything useful yesterday. Today I tried again, this time checking the box "Update to latest", and now it appears to work.

If you can do anything to add this feature to the Windows variant, it would be really helpful, because every time I update LPCXpresso, it's one Linux and at least two Windows installations, i.e. the effort to manually install plugins is multiplied.

In the end this is the main reason for updating not as frequent as I normally would.

Once you have activated LPCXpresso using a Pro Edition activation code, there is no need to do anything other than install the new LPCXpresso version. i.e. you don't need to deactivate, uninstall or reactive.

You can just install the new version, start it, and it will pick up your already installed activation code. You can then choose to uninstall the old LPCXpresso version when you are happy with the new version.

Unfortunately the Windows version of Eclipse doesn't support this.

I would like to amend this question:

What is the recommended/correct flow to update LPCXpresso for the pro edition?
I have purchased and activated one instance and of course are using only one instance.
Last time I updated either the installer or LPCXpresso (I do not remember which one) reminded me that I was activating LPCXpresso too frequently or some such.
Yet I only follow the update cycle for new versions.

Do I have to follow some specific sequence like

1. deactivate
2. uninstall current version
3. install new version
4. activate

to avoid such messages?
Up to now I execute 2 and 3, this was no problem so far.

Regards,

Mike
