Obviously it's possible to use SWO trace without SWO connection  :~

Is there any kind of summery which SWO Trace functions are working without SDO connection?

Something like:

Function - SWO connection required
-----------------------------------------------------
SWO DATA - No
SWO Counters - Yes

Note. Target is LPC1549

OK, I had forgotten about that.

The data monitor (as this feature is called) does not use any trace functionality and works by polling the memory location (using the standard debug connection). As mentioned, this is a Technology Preview, and this is one of the areas where the UI will be changing.

To use any of the SWO Trace facilities, as released in  LPCXpresso 7.7.2, the SWV pin (also referred to as SWO on some chips and board)  must be connected (as described here: http://www.lpcware.com/content/faq/lpcxpresso/debug-design).

Note: Ensure you read the FAQ http://www.lpcware.com/content/faq/lpcxpresso/trace-overview which describes any part specific setup.
