LPC23xx, Red Suite 5, debugger issue

Hi everyone,

I am using Red Suite 5 IDE for developing code for NXP LPC23xx micro which is an ARM7 micro. I am trying to flash and debug the code using NXP Link 2 debug adaptor but it doesn’t seem to be working at all. The same debug adopter works well for NXP LPC17xx micro which is a cortex M3 on another board.

I have been looking around and I see things like this adaptor (link 2) won’t work for none cortex M micro or at least it is not compatible with ARM7 architecture and I have to use Red Probe+ adaptor.

Does anybody know what I should do?

my other question is about Red Suite 5. Does this IDE run a server by the name red link an equivalent to GDB server to establish the connection to the target board or the debug adaptor?

My code seems to be compiling in NXPxpresso as well. If I use this IDE, can I use nxp Link 2 to program and flash the NXP LPC23xx ARM7 micro? If not, what probe should I use?

Many thanks,

Hi Almasi,

On the following link you could verify the supported devices by the LPC-Link2:

https://www.nxp.com/products/processors-and-microcontrollers/arm-based-processors-and-mcus/lpc-corte...

As complementary options, you could consider IAR and/or Keil, that provides support for ARM7 architecture; you could refer to the links below for additional details:

http://www2.keil.com/mdk5/legacy

https://www.iar.com/iar-embedded-workbench/#!?architecture=ARM

https://www.nxp.com/support/developer-resources/software-development-tools/lpc-developer-resources-/...

Hope this will be useful for you.
Best regards!
/Carlos

It seems LPCxpresso version 1 boards have LPC Link debugger on them which could be used to debug another board. Can somebody suggest me one of these boards that I can debug a ARM7 micro using either red Suite 5 or LPC Xpresso IDEs please.

Thanks

Got few useful articles on this community site.

LPC23xx ARM7 micro could be debugged using LPCxpresso IDE with either LPC Link or Red Probe+ Adoptors. I think for red probe+ the IDE should be v5.0 or earlier.

Am I right?
