FRDM K64 debugging using segger jlink debugger.

Hi,

I have a FRDM K64 evaluation board and using the MCUXpresso IDE.

I updated the bootloader to OpenSDA segger jlink , and successfully downloaded the code into board , but i want to use a external segger jlink debugger. 

To connect the external debugger used following steps.

1) Made a connection between the segger jlink debugger and K64 - J9.

2) Removed the tracks of J8 ,J11 and J12.

   

My segger is detecting is MCUXpresso but I not able to download the code.

I think i am missing something , I am new in kinetis controller and MCUXpresso.

Hi Erich

I changed the restored jumpers , the previous jumper connectors are loose.

Why did you do this? To debug the FRDM-K64F with an external debug probe the only thing you have to do is to connect the cable to the SWD debug header, see Debugging the FRDM-K64F with P&E Multilink | MCU on Eclipse

Thank you for help

I read in some documents and also I searched on google some people mentioned that to use the Segger Jlink we have cut the track of J8 and J12 , this is the link where I found FRDM-K64F alternative JTAG Debugger - Question | Mbed 

  

Another doubt is when I try to download the code error is  

Connect Under Reset

Communication error while accessing MDM-AP.

I don't know what I am missing.

While downloading the Red LED (reset) is blinking.

So have you restored the connection/jumpers?

As for the jumpers J12 andd J8, please check the schematics:

They are used to disconnect the DIO and CLK signal from the on-board K20 (OpenSDA) to the target MCU.

So it might depend on what firmware you are running on the K20, but on my boards with the latest bootloader and firmware the K20/OpenSDA is not doing anything with these lines if I'm not using the K20. I'm using the 'generic' Segger firmware on my K64F and I can debug my board with an external J-Link without changing any jumpers.

Can you check again your wiring?

Yes I restored the jumpers.

I am also using a generic Segger firmware (02_OpenSDA_FRDM-K64F.bin) on my K64 still I'm getting the same error.

First time I updated the boot loader and downloaded the code successfully , but I tried again it is not working. ans showing the following error.

I am not understanding which step I'm missing. 

1) Updated the firmware (Segger)  and downloaded the code ,  first time worked , after that not worked.

2) To use a external J-link debugger removed the tracks of J8,J12,J11 and tried to download but not worked.

3) Again restored the all jumpers and tried to download the code , not worked.

I think there is something wrong with your J-Link installation?

Can you verify to which installation the IDE points to?

If you are using the J-Link with other IDEs, I suggest you re-run the DLL updater too:

Other than that, can you post the log of the J-Link connection process from the Console view in Eclipse?

The above all errors are generating when I am using the J-link lite CortexM external debugger.

The messages from the J-Link indicate that it is not able to completely stop the target.

Not sure how long your SWD debug cable is, or if there are any EMI issues. Keep the cable as short as possible.

The other thought I have: does debugging with that J-Link work for other boards? I had at least one unit which somehow got damaged.
