CAU vs software power consumption

Hello,

I have a question about power consumption.

Reading enc modules specs I wasn't be able to figure out the benefits in terms of power of evaluating a CRC or a SHA or an MD5 operation via hardware using the encryption module instead of a pure software routine.

Does Freescale provide a benchmark or something similar?

Best regards

L.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have still to relate it to power, but your observation is true: a shorter running time should mean using small power consumption.

However I wonder how much current the CAU module drains. But it isn't a trivial matter right now.

Best regards,

Luca.

Hi Luca,

We don't have encryption hardware vs software power consumption bench marking data, while please check below picture about hardware vs software performance bench marking info.

The related performance column higher with better performance and use less time to handle same encryption data.

I think short running time means using small power consumption.

Wish it helps.
