USB3.0 superspeed could not be detected

Hi,

I am using a CBTU02043 switch (paired with PTN5150A) for USB applications.

I got confused on the NC pin of it, which is typically floating or no connection but different on this chip, resulting for my schematic to not have the pad connected to the PCB gnd. I reviewed the datashseet again and it says it was recommended. Is this just for thermal dissipation?

Do you think this issue can affect its normal operation? Because i am having problems with the board that I am using wherein USB3.0 superspeed could not be detected. Only USB2.0 seems to work. I checked if the IC switch is functional, it seems to permit the signal to pass thru on the right path, depending on my set SEL state.

Hi guoweisun,

Thanks for the feedback. But what if the pad wasnt connected to the PCB gnd. because right now, my board does not have this connection.

I wonder if this will affect the functionality of the switch or the signal integrity? Or is this just for thermal dissipation purposes?

I don't think it will affect the functionality if floating it!

N.C means no connect of inside of IC.

Center pad is not connected to the device ground pin
inside the package. Recommend to connect center
pad to PCB ground
