Migration from EOL MCF5482CZP

Folks, we have an active product that uses the MCF5482CZP ColdFire processor.   Unfortunately this part is going end of life.    Short of buying and sitting of a pile of inventory for the next 10 years, we're looking for alternatives.

We're looking at the MCF5441X which looks close.   I have a few questions...

First off, has anyone here migrated from the 5482?

   Can we talk?

Do any code pitfalls come to mind?

What sort of development environment are people using?

I thought this was a separate community forum.  The email was to NXP.  I wouldn't think they would be funneled into the same place.

Is there a developer's kit or and evaluation board we can buy for the MCF5441X?

Yes, this community really independent with the email cases, and both are welcomed for customer to discuss the technical issue.

The TWR-MCF5441X was developed by our third partner and it seems EOL now. Anyway, the hardware schematic and sample code still available for customer to reference.

That's the "Tower" system. Dates from 2010.

If you search for this you'll find Digikey has a listing, marked "Obsolete" with zero available. Mouser has then "Not Available". Element14 doesn't have them either.

This page shows them "EOL" and then "Obsolete" back in 2013!

You could use archive.org to try and see when the above sites last had stock, but that isn't going to help you. I think "sitting on a pile of the existing ones" might be easier. You'll need a hardware redesign for the new chip, and then you'll have to change your code base to support both the old and new ones (if it is an upgradeable product). Either as two separate builds or a boot and binary smart enough to run on both.

If you want a development system, your best bet is probably a second-hand system, and this forum is probably your best place for that.

Hello,

It seems you had submit a same case by Email. Anyway, from what my idea that you may look at the MCF5441X RM and sample code first to see if any changes need to based on your application. ( Actually they are both ColdFire V4, and most modules are same.)
