I have just started with Microcontrollers. I want to do some small application on 8 Bit Microcontroller. Which series is better to start as a fresher ?

Hello Sarang,

Neing new to micros you would benefit from the BDM on the S08 and S12 devices from freescale. The MC9S08QG8 is small and low cost with low cost tools to support If you want something a bit bigger there is the MC9S08AW60 or bigger still is the MC9S12XDP512.

Hello,

I would suggest the HC08. It is easier and cheaper to build a programmer for them.

The whole HC08 family works with 5V and not with low voltage like the HCS Q R and G families. Another point is that you can select between more different chips.

I agree with eckhard, and I suggest the MC68HC908GP32 which seems to be the simplest MCU to start with (I noticed that even the 908QT/Y Tutorial is based on GP32 examples...).

Furthermore, some people may find the 908QT/Y MCUs simpler than the GP32; I see this is wrong because the Nitron Family members (908QT/Y) have special considerations regarding Flash programming and the TRIMMING issue... so more reading is required to start with these MCUs.
