ICG oscillator operation

Hi Everybody;

 With a new (non programmed) 9S08AC60 and crystal (4 MHz), caps, resistor connected to xtal & extal pins. On the application of power, 5V dc., is the ICG crystal oscillator supposed to run? Always/ sometimes/ never?

Hello Bob,

After POR, the default operating mode for the ICG module will be FEI.  The crystal oscillator will be inoperative.  You will then need to set ICGC1 to enable the oscillator, and to switch to FEE mode.  Refer to the datasheet, section 10.5.3, Example #2 for the required procedure.
