How to program MC68HC705JP7CDWE microcontroller?

Hi all

I am new to this forum.

Currently I have some MC68HC705JP7CDWE microcontroller that I need to program. I understand that they are obsolete. May I check if there is any programmer (commercial available or DIY) I can use/make to program it? Can I use codewarrior for this purpose?

Also, does anyone have any idea on the function behind the series? ie MC68HC705 = HC05 family, JP7 => ?  Because I found in the web that can be used to program MC68HC705B16. Can I use to program  MC68HC705JP7 series also?

Thanks

Regards

Steve

freescale doesn't have a codewarrior version that can support HC05 chip. while as far as i know P&E still has  product can support HC05.

Hello Steve,

The '705JP7 dates from the early 1990s, and it was usual practice to purchase an "evaluation board" from Motorola that catered for program development.  The board also provided for OTPROM programming.  A single evaluation board would be applicable to only one or two device types with similar pin-outs.

For some of the devices, it was also possible to program them using a special hardware arrangement, in conjunction with an external EPROM that contained an image of the code.  However, I have not been able to find the datasheet for the 'JP7 to see what was required for this device.  To my knowledge, the programming algorithm was never publicly documented (although this was the pre-Internet period).

You may also find that some commercial PROM programmers of that vintage were also able to program a range of Motorola MCU devices.

Regards,

Mac

Hi bigmac

Thanks for the information. Yup, guess I have to turn to vintage collectors to get a evaluation board as I tried P&E and they do not supply such boards. Hope I can get them soon.

Have a great weekend!

Steve

Hello Steve,

After a quick search, I found the following information.

http://www.freescale.com/files/microcontrollers/doc/data_sheet/MC68HC705JJ7.pdf

It is also possible that some commercial programmers may still be able to program the device. For example http://www.elnec.com/search/

Mac
