Is it possible to boot the new BSP yocto (kernel 3.10.17 and new rootfs) using the old uboot from the old BSP version 4.0.0 (the one with kernel 3.0.35)?
I'm asking this because I need to perform an update from user interface of a board running the old BSP and I'd like to avoid updating also the bootloader (for security/stability reasons).
Thank you.
Hello Gianluca,
According to the function of bootloader, it is possible to use old u-boot to load new linux kernel, but I don't recommend you do like this. You konw, since linux 3.10.x, the architecture of linux driver has been changed completely, correspondingly, bootloader was also updated, as for security & stability , new bootloader should be better than old one, so I suggest you'd better port new BSP including u-boot to your board completely !
Hope above suggestions can help you !
