We're using the iMX51 processor with an external 24MHz oscillator and the datasheet says the COSC_EN bit needs to be cleared to put the on-chip oscillator in bypass which allows EXTAL to be externally driven. We've been running multiple boards for months without doing this without an issue. My question does anyone know what the risk is (if any) in not doing this if using an external clock? Does anyone else drive this part using an external clock (ie; any know issues)?
