Hi community,

Our partner have a question about i.MX6DQ temperature.

Please see Table 6 in IMX6DQCEC Rev.3.

We can see Tj(max) = 105 degrees for extended consumer and 95 degrees for standard consumer products.

According to AN4724, I guess no damage for i.MX6DQ if i.MX6DQ works Tj = 105 degrees (or 95 degrees) all of the time, and it has some margin to the temperature (Tj) that break down i.MX6DQ.

Is this correct?

If it is correct, could you let me know the temperature (Tj) that bread down i.MX6DQ?

I guess i.MX6DQ is broken when Tj = 150 degrees because TSTORAGE(max) = 150 degrees in Table 4.

Is this right?

Best Regards,

Satoshi Shimoda

For thermal design it is highly recommended to be oriented on
Tj max in the Datasheet (105 degree).
To say simply - 106 degree must not be achievable.

You are right, IMX6DQ will work correctly (and meet  all hardware specs in i.MX6 DQ Datasheet)

while Tj <= 105 (or 95) degree C. And, strictly speaking, we cannot guarantee proper operations

for Tj > 105 degree C. Maximal temperature of 150 degree C relates to storage environment,

assuming the device is not under working conditions. It is clear if environment temperature is

greater than 150 degree C IMX6DQ may be broken.

Have a great day,
Yuri

Dear Yuri,

Thank you for your reply.

To make sure, I have one more question.

If use under 105 degree C < Tj < 150 degree C, Freescale cannot guarantee proper operations, but I guess i.MX6DQ is not broken.

Is this correct?

Strictly speaking 150 degree C is specified for storage enviromment ; at least,
i.MX6 is not powered. Your approach may be used just for rough estimations.

Dear Yuri,

> Strictly speaking 150 degree C is specified for storage enviromment

Yes, I understandd.

Actually, we want to know how much margin should we estimate when thermal design.

If i.MX6DQ is damaged when over 105 degree C even little, we have to prepare some margin when thermal design to prevent over 105 degree C.

(e.g. 105 * 0.8 = 84 degree C)

So we want to know the temperature i.MX6DQ is damaged.
