The list of features supported by the i.MX53 QSB BSP is available on our website (http://www.adeneo-embedded.com/en/Products/Board-Support-Packages/Freescale-i.MX53-QSB -> features) but is being updated to match the features that are currently supported. Stay tuned!

Can I take one of the BSP source files that already exist in the download from Freescale (i.g. WCE700_11.03.01_SS.zip). There are several platform models included for other development boards. The iMX53_ARD_Mobility, ARD_SmallFootprint, iMX53_EVK_Mobility, iMX53_SMD_xxx. I would like to know which one gets me the closest to the QSB, so I could start from there.

By the way, I have no issue with the $500 if I could get a clear understanding of which category items are installed. Eventually we are going to go to production and I would like to be cost effective from a license standpoint.

I have attended some training classes with Joe Broxton (Adeneo) and he is awesome, so I have no doubt on what he and Adeneo can do!  Part of this is just me wanting to learn a little bit about the whole BSP process.

The unbuntu source is free, the microsoft windows embedded compact 7 is $500 from Andeneo. I was hoping to use the complete Microsoft tool chain from designer to developer, which starts with Expression Blends 3, Silverlight and ends with the Visual Studio 2008 with application code in C++. There are some application sheets out there, but I am new at this whole process.

Has anyone attempted to run WEC7 on this thing yet? I really don't want to spend the $500 dollars for the source from Adeneo (great group there, hope they take no offense!). I was hoping someone can walk me through cloning one of the BSP that you can download from freescale.

The available production boards for the i.MX53 are the i.MX53 Quick Start board (MCIMX53-START) and the i.MX53 SABRE for Tablets (MCIMX53SMD) located on the following pages:  www.freescale.com/imxquickstart and www.freescale.com/imxsabre

is imx53 loco the same as this Quickstart board? imx53evk, imx53loco, imx53quickstart, imx53 SABRE, what are the difference?

If you run VMware on a 64 bit os, then it can run a 64 bit guest. It is not an emulator, the guest runs on the host machine's hardware, so you need to have the 64 bit hardware and a 64 bit os so VM ware can "see" the 64 bit hardware.

But this one is x86. Don't know if it is available for download.

I believe VMware player only supports x86 CPUs, as such I can only assume the VM is for cross-development (and is not for running the target on, say, QEMU)? Does anyone know if the VM is available for download (i.e. so I can start working with it before my board arrives)?

Same thing here : the CPU is over 60°C after a few minutes running video & 3D demos in a 22°C ambient ...

mx53 chip gets awfully hot compared to the mx51EVK. I guess running the bus at 400MHz vs 200MHz takes a lot of power. Does anyone else think it is running kind of hot? I measure around 55C case, ambient 25C

Some VM hints:

Up the memory in the VM to 1-1.5G. Uncheck connect at power on for floppy, CD and any other device you don't need. 

I prefer Bridged network over NAT.

If you have a multi-core box, give it 2 cores.

just unboxed mine..I've had a few Linux boards and this is certianly the most impressive in terms of both design and support. How wonderful to be able to develop right on the target with so little effort. The prebuilt VM ware image is a brilliant idea. Need to get a SATA drive as SD cards are slow.
