Watchdog Timer

We are using i.MX6 Quad Processor in our design.

We are developing one of the  product for Critical Medical Application.

We need some clarifiaction on the Internal Watchdog Functionality.

Is internal Watchdog is able to detect the hanging the Software of the any particular core in the processor and resets the entier processor?

In otherwords if the software hangs, how effectively the Internal Watch Dog circuitry will detect and reset the entire processor.

If the Watchdog circuitry falls in particular core and software hanging/ not working of that particular part core is not functioning then how effectively watchdog processor will reset the entire core.

Kindly Clarify.

Hi Murali

for high reliability applications (such as medical)

it is recommedned to use external watchdog.

If the software hangs, I.MX6 Watch Dog will effectively detect and reset the entire processor.

However if processor hangs (for example due to EMI), Watch Dog may malfunction

(due to absence of internal clocks).
