Inter processor communication (Between iMX8MQ and i.MX8MQ) design

Hi NXP Team,

We are planning to establish an inter-process communication between two i.MXMQ series processors.

• Approach-1:
  • The first approach is to establish connectivity via MAC(RGMII) interface. 
• Approach-2:
  • The second approach is using PCIe to PCIe cross-link connections.
  • Reference: i.MX6Q PCIe EP/RC Validation System 

Queries:

1. In the i.MX6Q references the results mentioned below. Will we get similar results in i.MX8Q? 
2. What throughput we can expect in approach 1? (Using RGMII connections?)
3. Which design is better for inter-process communication between two processors(The communication would be of non-video data)?

Hi Harshit

1. yes

2. i.MX8MQ has not rgmii issues/errata, so rgmii performance can be obtained

3. seems for short distance pcie is better (less wires), for longer distances probably

rgmii better as it imposes less requirements on board/cable/connectors quality

to avoid signal loss.
