Imx6Solox External Crystal Failure condition

Hi i am looking for answer what happen when External crystal oscillator connected to Imx6solox fails.

does Imx6solox has internal oscillator to switch to when external one fails. it will switch automatically.

or we have to program that to happen. what do we have now in Freescale Linux bsp for Imx6solox.

Hello Niranjan,

It would depend on which crystal you are referring to. The 24Mhz crystal or external oscillator is mandatory and it not being available would make the processor stop.

The 32Khz crystal/external-oscillator is not mandatory as there is a loose tolerance internal 40khz ring oscillator that would be triggered if the 32Khz crystal/external-oscillator is not available. There is some more information on the i.MX6SX Reference Manual in section 61.5

Hello Niranjan,

The 24Mhz crystal or external oscillator is mandatory so in case it fails there is no alternative to switch to. You may use the Watchdog to reset the processor in case this happens, as the 32Khz would be running regardless.
