IMX6 Real Time Clock

I am trying to use the IMX6 internal snvs RTC for a Real Time Function. So far I am not able to maintain a counter value across a power cycle. Will the hardware support this function and how do I enable it?  Of course a coin battery is in place to provide power to the snvs module.

one can try to test it on Sabre SD reference board with imx-test package,
please use ../mxc_rtc/doc description
