a post on community states that the SoC limits the RAM capacity address limit to 2GB, is it possible at all to increase that limit to 8 or 16GB/128Gb

Refer i.MX8ULP RM Memory Map, The maximum DRAM size is 2GB. and there is no way to expand it to 8 or 16GB/128Gb.
