Fail Safe Display

Hi Team,

I had a query with the fail safe display design of imx8qxp.

Does IMX8QXP have the support for a fail safe display functionality.

I could read from documents that  critical components like the when GPU and Cortex-A cores experience crashes or failures. The M4 core will be able to drive a 2D display in place of 3D. Is my understanding on this correct. Can you please provide a detailed explanation how it works. Or guide me through on this.

Hi,

I have went through these documents that is where I got confusion. How this can be checked I wanted to know. Is my understanding correct on this in case the cortex A53 or GPU crashes the 2D graphics can be displayed. Is it like the display which was shown in 3D gets coverted to 2D graphics ?

This was my concern. How to know more on this I have gone through display controller document.

I am attaching the file here.

Just needed to know about this fail overs strategy what it means.
What I could undertsand is even if the A35 core or GPU crashes we will be able to drive the Display with the help of display controller which is having a 2d blit engine to do 2d graphics.

Inorder to reproduce this situation what should we do. Is there anything need to be done from software. This is my doubt can you help me here.

Hello @Ashil,

I hope you are doing well.

->The Safety Stream in general has the same functionality as the Content Stream.

->Due to the decoupled timing, the Safety Stream still works properly even when a Content Stream on the same display has completely hung up due to mal function of the correlated SW.

I suggest referring to section 15.6.2.3.4.3 Safety Stream from the RM.

It will help you!
