HELLO ALL

We're Looking For Right SoC For Current Working Project Of Automotive Display Controller. According To SOR From OEM Target Display May Be Either Of Portrait Type And Landscape Type TFT LCD Base Display. As To Landscape Here's No Issue For The System Design But To Portrait Type Due To Almost Of Display Are Landscape Display (Only Few Designs For Vertical Use From Some Panel Maker) So We Need SoC With Enough Performance To Do:

1. With Built-in Display Control Unit (IPU) Support Inversion / Flip / Rotate For 90 / 180 Degree To Transform Horizontal Line Into Vertical Which Means Target Design Requires Enough On-Chip Display Framebuffer / Can Allow DMA By Means Of DDR As Framebuffer To Implement For Resolution 720P / 1080P 60FPS.

2. Data Rate Bandwith May Be A Crucial Factor.

3. Enough Performance For Video Overlay (Video Over Video At 720P / 1080P Each 60FPS) (Support 3 Layer Video Captures By MIPI CSI-2)

4. The Key Use Of The Design Is Just For Display Control / Video Control With Overlay Feature PIP / POP (OSD Level) / Video Over Video With Some Communication Functions By Peripherals USB / UART CAN / I2S Codec For Audio Routing Bypass Model / Ethernet.

5. Target System Will Be Legacy Linux.

6. Considering Cost Chip Should Be Lower Than 20$

Our Candidate SoC Is I.MX6 Solo / Solo Plus. My Question Is Can I.MX6 Solo Performs Well For My Requirement?

Note The Target Design Is Just A Display Control Unit.

Hi Bright

in general these requirements are feasible, one can test

performance with i.MX6DL Sabre SD board using Demo Images from

i.MX Software and Development Tools | NXP

for rotation may be useful to check

90 degree or 270 degree rotation not working using fb0 rotate?

Best regards
igor

HELLO IGOR

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY TO MY QUESTION. IN FACT I NOW IPU CAN SUPPORT DISPLAY ORIENTATION INVERSION (SEE HERE PRESENTATION TO INTRODUCE IPUv3H) BUT I’M NOT SURE OF ENOUGH PERFORMANCE FOR TARGET RESOLUTION / FRAMERATE AND ALSO ANOTHER USE CASE OF VIDEO OVERLAY. THAT’ WHY I POSTED HERE TO ASK FOR EXPERT OPINIONS. CAN YOU HELP TO CHECK:

1. Here Are 2 Requirements. One For Display Orientation Conversion (Flip / Rotate) Another For Video Overlay.

1-1. We Have No Doubt About The Display Rotation Capability Of IPU But Wonder:

1-1-1. Support Maximum Resolution

1-1-2. Support Maximum Framerate

1-1-3. Support Maximum Frame Buffer Size (Display)

1-2. About Overlay We Know PXP Can Do Image Color Key For Alpha Transparency Use Case Also PIP (Picture In Picture) / POP (Picture Over Picture) But Have No Idea About Video Overlay Capability:

pastedImage_1.png

1-2-1. Support Maximum Frame Buffer Size (Camera In)

1-2-2. Support Maximum Bandwidth (Data Rate)

For Our Use Case We May Need Support 2 - 3 Video Input Overlay:

Each Reasolution May Be Either Of:

1024*768

1280*720

1920*1080

@ Framerate 60FPS

Two Of Video Input From MIPI CSI-2 Along With Renesas (Intersil) TW8844/45

Left One May From Ethernet Stream.

IN CONLUSION OF WHAT I ASKED HERE

THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL:

ROTATE 90 / 180 DEGREE (DISPLAY / CAMERA)

720P / 1080P @ FRAMERATE 60FPS

MEANWHILE

SUPPORT VIDEO OVERLAY

EACH VIDEO INPUT FROM MIPI CSI-2 (PARALLEL)

720P / 1080P @ FRAMRATE 60FPS

KEY FACTOR

FRAMEBUFFER SIZE

DISPLAY FRAME BUFFER

CAMERA FRAME BUFFER

DATA TRANSMISSION BANDWIDTH

BRIGHT

HELLO

I'M STILL LOOKING FOR ANSWERS.

In Our Case We Need 2-Way Video Input Each With Resolution 720P @ Frame Rate 60FPS In The Meantime To Overlay Together By Using Stream Mode And MEMCPY To IPU's Frame Buffer For 90 Degree Rotation. Is That Possible?
