Hi iMX-Android Champ !

A customer is reviewing an Android Auto project using the i.MX series.

One of their project requirements is to reach Power On -> Android Home Screen in 15 seconds.
If there is any platform that can approximate 15sec using current Android 14 or later, can you share the boot time information?

If it is more than 15sec to home screen, I would appreciate if you could share any relevant documentation or links so that I can guide them on how to reduce it further.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

JK

Hello,
For the i.MX series running Android 14 or later, boot times can vary. However, achieving a boot time of 15 seconds from power-on to the home screen is quite challenging. Typically, boot times are around 20-30 seconds depending on the specific configuration and optimizations.

To help reduce boot time, you can refer to the following resources:

  1. Optimize Boot Times: Android Open Source Project

  2. Boot Time Optimization for i.MX: NXP Community

  3. Android Automotive User's Guide: NXP Semiconductors

These resources provide detailed guidance on optimizing boot times, including tips on reducing logging, using LZ4 compression, and stripping debug symbols.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hello,

Boot time on i.MX8X & i.MX8QM is ~75Sec for Android Automotive default BSP release, but we do provide as part of the documentation ways to improve this, please refer to the Android Automotive User's Guide chapter 8.9 Boot time tuning
https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/user-guide/Android_Auto_User's_Guide.pdf

Best regards/Saludos,
Aldo.

Hi AldoG

So if I try the things introduced in the article to reduce boot time, if the boot time using android auto default image is about 70 seconds, can it be reduced to about 20 seconds by applying the config to improve boot time?
Please provide a convincing estimate before 15-20 seconds to be considered for promotion.

Thanks.

Regards,

Jack
