mydisktool enhanced raw disk tool

In our daily work as a FAE (Field Application Engineer), we need to read and write to SD cards, and often this requires working under Windows. The Win32 Disk Imager tool provides this functionality, but it cannot specify a particular offset or dump a mirror based on the disk partition size. After dumping the disk mirror, if it's a GPT (Global Point of View) system, we also need to repair the backup GPT table. This prompted me to write  dedicated tools.

I'm currently using the tools myself and hope to share them to bring some convenience to the daily work.

It's recommended to place the tools in the Windows path, so it can be run from anywhere.

1. RawDisk Menu Tool

Author: Biyong SUN
Version: 1.0.6

Introduction:
RawDisk Menu Tool is an advanced Windows utility for low-level disk operations on removable drives (such as SD cards and USB drives). Unlike traditional tools like Win32 Disk Imager, which can only write from offset 0 and dump the entire disk, RawDisk Menu offers fine-grained control over disk access:

Key Advantages Over Win32 Disk Imager

  • Flexible Offsets:

    • Win32 Disk Imager is limited to starting at offset 0.
    • RawDisk Menu allows reading or writing from any offset, making it ideal for partial backups or targeted restoration.
  • Custom Lengths:

    • Win32 Disk Imager always processes the entire disk.
    • RawDisk Menu lets you specify length, so you can copy only the required portion (e.g., a single partition).
  • Block Size Control:

    • Supports configurable block sizes (up to 50 MB), enabling performance tuning for large transfers.
  • Dry-Run Mode:

    • Preview operations without modifying the disk—something Win32 Disk Imager does not offer.
  • Partition Awareness:

    • Displays partition layout and disk metadata before performing operations.
  • Safety Features:

    • Locks and dismounts volumes before writing to prevent corruption.
    • Confirms all parameters interactively.

Use Cases

  • Backup only the boot sector or a specific partition.
  • Restore a corrupted partition without overwriting the entire disk.
  • Perform forensic analysis by reading selective disk regions.

Workflow Highlights:

  • Enumerates removable disks under a configurable size limit (default: 128 GB).
  • Interactive prompts for offset, length, block size, and file paths.
  • Displays progress and previews data in hex/ASCII format for dry runs.

2. Disk Mirror Tool

Author: Biyong SUN
Version: 1.0.3
Purpose:
This tool is designed for analyzing and repairing disk image files, particularly focusing on partition structures and GPT (GUID Partition Table) integrity. Its main capabilities include:

  • Partition Detection:

    • Reads and displays partition information for both MBR (Master Boot Record) and GPT partition styles.
    • Detects common filesystems such as NTFS, FAT32, exFAT, and EXT2/3/4 by inspecting sector signatures.
  • GPT Backup Repair:

    • Fixes a common issue where the GPT backup header is missing or incorrectly positioned at the tail of the disk image.
    • Recalculates CRC32 checksums for GPT headers and partition entries to ensure consistency.
  • Disk Information Display:

    • Shows disk size in human-readable format (bytes, KB, MB, GB).
    • Lists partitions with start/end offsets, size, and filesystem type.

Usage Highlights:

  • -s or --show: Display disk info only.
  • -f or --fix: Repair GPT backup and then display disk info.
