No Response from JN5179 in Bootloader mode for Read Flash ID Command

Hi Support Team,

I am using the JN5179 chipset and attempting to download firmware via the UART interface using the built-in bootloader. I am following the JN-AN-1003 document to achieve this and have configured the UART to 38400 baud.

As per the message sequence, I am sending the Read Flash ID request, which consists of 3 bytes, after putting the JN5179 into bootloader mode:

0x02 (Length), 0x25 (Message Type), 0x27 (Checksum)

However, I am not receiving any response from the bootloader for this command. Could you please help me understand why the JN5179 is not responding and suggest possible solutions?

Thanks & Regards,
Rajani Sureja

Hi Luis,

I am using an ESP32 as the host controller, with a JN5179 connected to it.

I am able to successfully send other commands to the JN5179 in normal mode (not in bootloader mode) — such as creating a Zigbee network, channel selection, reading device information, etc. — without any issues, so the serial connection appears to be working correctly.

However, I am not receiving any response when sending commands in bootloader mode. I need to deploy the firmware over UART in bootloader mode, but the JN5179 does not seem to respond.

Could you please help me identify what might be causing this issue?

Thanks & Regards,
Rajani Sureja

Hello Rajani

Are you using an NXP Module for this application?

Can you send another command through the bootloader and get a response? Or

Is this the only bootloader command that you can't get a response?

Best Regards

Luis

Hi Luis,

As mentioned in JN-AN-1003.pdf, Serial communication between the PC and boot loader is implemented as 8,N,1,38K4 from the JN514x/JN5139 UART 0.

I was using UART1 so it is causing the issue.

Thanks,

Hi Luis,

Can you please confirm which UART number/pins of JN5179 the bootloader will accept commands from? It seems there might be an issue with the JN UART I'm using to send commands in bootloader mode.

Thanks,
