Hi NXP Team ,

I am currently working with the **KW45 series of chips** and reviewing the register layout for the **Secure Miscellaneous System Control Module (SMSCM)**. I would like to gain a deeper understanding of the definitions of the following fields in the DBGEN register:
`ALTEN`, `ALTDBGEN`, `SPNIDEN`, `NIDEN`, `SPIDEN`, and `DBGEN`

My specific questions are:
1. What is the exact function of each of these fields, and how do they differ from one another?
2. In what typical scenarios or use cases would you enable or configure each field? For example, when would you use `SPIDEN` vs `DBGEN`, or `ALTEN` vs `ALTDBGEN`?
3. Are there any dependencies or interactions between these fields that I should be aware of?

Could you please provide more detailed reference materials to help me understand these fields if available?

Hope you are doing well, I apologize for the late reply.

 

DBGEN register uses a special three D flip-flop (DFF3) register implementation to control debug access. When it is enabled and the device’s lifecycle state allows it, you can debug normally. When it is disabled, the KW45 blocks this type of access. This means that DBGEN only works if the KW45’s security/lifecycle state permits debugging.

 

Other fields, such as SPIDEN or ALTEN and ALTDBGEN, work with the lifecycle and the authentication flow to allow secure or temporary debug access.

 

The available information for the DBGEN register, where each field and its function are described, is included in Reference Manual section 12.3.2.2 Debug Enable (DBGEN).
