K32W061 vs. KW41Z

Hi All,

I am exploring the possibility of designing sensing nodes connected in a Thread mesh network and using an RP4 running OpenThread ad my Thread border router. I came across the KW41Z  but the web page for it recommends to use the K32W061 for new  projects instead. However, in reviewing the SDKs and application notes for both, one notices that the KW32W061 seems to be geared to Zigbee networks (no Thread Application Notes) and the KW41Z to Thread networks.

The sensing nodes transducers are digital and interface through I2C so from that POV both MCU would work. Any recommendations or insights as to which one would be preferable? Is the KW41Z being replaced by the K32W061?

Thanks in advance,

Vladimir

Vladmir...CEL has ready-made and certified modules based on NXP's K32W061 chip set.

https://www.cel.com/product/cmp53x/

https://www.cel.com/contact/

Request the datasheet and details on how to evaluate their solution with NXP's IOTZTB-DK006 evaluation kit/tools.

Thanks for the information Bruce!

It sounds like they have a solution that would accelerate development, I'm checking them out.

I'll be in touch.

Hi Vladimir,

Good questions! We recommend using the K32W0 for new Thread or Zigbee designs. We have migrated all our Thread documentation into the MCUXpresso SDK. https://mcuxpresso.nxp.com/en/welcome If you select the K32W0 and Thread when you build the SDK you will find detailed examples and documentation on how to use the K32W0 with a Thread design. We also have several module partners who make modules for the K32W0.
