Wi-Fi driver subsystem porting

I am looking to integrate NXP's 88W8987 Wi-Fi/BT combo with Nvidia running linux-tegra-4.9. I am pretty new to porting drivers for Wi-Fi subsystem .What would be the typical steps involved in realizing this? How and where should I start implementing the same. Any reference to documents or user guides would be of great help.
