Hi, I want to use the pressure sensor MPX2202AP (absolute pressure). The datasheet says, that pressure is limited to 20 kPa abs., but I want to measure down to approx. 0 kPa abs. So my question is, why is the sensor limited to 20 kPa abs. and what will happen, if the sensor will be applied with 0 kPa abs. I think that the backside of the sensor is fully evacuated an so it should be no problem to apply the sensor to 0 kPa abs?! Output signal can go to negative values?! Ok, no problem in my application. Thankys for any help!

Best Regards

Nils

Hello David,

thank you for quick answer. The sensor is made from the basic silicon sensor chip and a passive thin film temperature compensation and calibration circuitry. No active elements that can hinder the output signal to go to negative values, I think. In my opinion there is nothing that speaks against to apply the sensor to 0 kPa abs. Maybe there are some non linearity reasons when driving the sensor below 20 kPa abs. but if so this fault can be compensated by software in our application. Any other ideas why the datasheet limits the min pressure to 20 kPa abs? NXP engineers are also welcome to discuss this thread!!!

Best Regards

Nils

Hello Nils,

I am afraid that below the minimum pressure range mentioned on the datasheet, the pressure sensor will not reflect any change at the output.

The output signal cannot go to negative values.

Please let me know if you need a further recommendation.

I hope this information will be useful for you.

If I misunderstood your question, feel free to let me know.  I will be glad to help.

Have a great day.

David Diaz.
