Hello NXP Team,

I am currently working with the S32K144 microcontroller and have configured it to operate in VLPS mode. The device wakes up using a GPIO interrupt. However, I have observed that the current consumption remains higher than expected.

Could you please guide me on the optimal settings or configurations to minimize power consumption and ensure the device operates at the lowest possible energy levels?

Thank you for your support!

Hello @adem_marangoz,

Do you keep the debugger/programmer connected?

If so, the MCU does not enter VLPS but an emulated stop mode instead which has higher power consumption.

Try disconnecting the debugger and power-cycling the MCU.

I do not turn off the debugger during testing. But are there any clocks or other features that I can disable to make it consume the least possible energy?

Before the MCU enters VLPS mode, the system clock must be sourced from SIRC, and all other clock sources must be disabled.
This means that any peripherals allowed to operate in VLPS must be clocked by SIRC, while all other peripherals must be disabled.

Power consumption in VLPS is specified in the Device Specification (DS) under:

  • Table 13. Power consumption
  • Table 14. VLPS additional use-case power consumption at typical conditions.

The detailed use cases are described in the Excel file attached to the DS:
S32K1xx_Power_Modes_Configuration.xlsx

Daniel
