Regarding the SDK, there is FTM_DRV_GetInputCaptureMeasurement() function that returns a value calculated from Channel (n, n+1) Value Registers based on the timer configuration.
This function returns Rising Edge Period Measurement in the example in Design Studio (S32K144_FTM_Signal_Measurement). This can be changed to Period On Measurement.
There is also an application note for the FlexTimer: Features and Operation Modes of FlexTimer Module on S32K
with software.
