PowerTop Tool Not Showing Power Estimation Data on S32G3

Hello NXP Community,

I'm working on a customized S32G3 board running Yocto BSP43 with Linux kernel 6.6.32.

I've successfully built and launched the PowerTop tool, but it's not displaying power estimation data. Most fields related to power consumption remain at zero or blank, even after calibration.

My questions:

  1. Is PowerTop fully supported in BSP43 for the S32G3 platform?

  2. Are there any specific kernel configs, power drivers, or sensor interfaces that must be enabled for power estimation to work?

  3. Has anyone been able to get accurate power profiling on this platform, either through PowerTop or an alternative method/tool?

Any insights, suggestions, or documentation references would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello, @Sureshiast

Thanks for the post.

1. PowerTop is not by default included in the BSP43 release, as a result, it is not formally tested from BSP's perspective.

2. PowerTop is a Linux user space tool, from the README(https://github.com/fenrus75/powertop), some kernel configurations would be needed for use, I suggest checking them in your kernel configuration in advance.

3. There is AN13734(https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/application-note/AN13734.pdf) which is related with this topic, you may reference it to check it if it could helpful for your requirements.
