Hi, I am totally new at this and I am interested in learning all I can.  I wanted to know all the components and parts necessary to create, and program a complete USB thumb drive.  Can anyone help me or direct me to where I may need to go.

Hello Jamesw.
Although you posted in the 8-bit forum I only know of a reference design in the 16-bit field. Look at the MC9S12UF32 and reference designs. I believe they have a complete thumb-drive design.
