Your question is too broad, we have hundreds of microcontrollers in the HCS12 family that are derived from the original HC12 family. It all depends on your system requirements (# of I/O, Timers, ADC, frequency, memory, etc.). One very good general purpose HCS12 that seems to fit the bill in many HC12 redesigns is the MC9S12GC32 or MC9S12C32.

Oh, don't call it "HC6812". Why not call it one of the valid names such as
HC12
68HC12
MC68HC12
XC68HC12
XC68HC912


Anything actually IN the part number, to help people who try to search for messages on this subject.
