TPL Waveform oscilloscope or logic analyzer

Can I observe the TPL waveform on a logic analyzer, or is an oscilloscope necessary? What are the required settings on either the logic analyzer or the oscilloscope?

I currently have a KL25Z connected to a FRDMC33664BEVB, and I am successfully observing SPI signals using a logic analyzer. However, my question is specifically about TPL.

I want to confirm this before connecting the FRDMC33771BTPLEVB. Is an oscilloscope mandatory, or can I use a logic analyzer? What are the necessary settings for both devices?

Also, does the FRDMC33771BTPLEVB need to be connected to transmit TPL signals and for me to observe the waveform, or can I see it even without it being connected?

Hello,

Unfortunately, it's not possible to directly measure TPL signals using a standard logic analyzer, you'll need a TPL sniffer interface.

We recommend using the KIT-TPLSNIFEVB, which is specifically designed to work with logic analyzers. Please see:  https://www.nxp.com/design/design-center/development-boards-and-designs/KIT-TPLSNIFEVB

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response and assistance; I truly appreciate it. Regarding your points:

Firstly, I understand perfectly that a standard logic analyzer cannot directly interpret TPL signals. This was logical to me.

Secondly, I was wondering if using an oscilloscope could help observe the TPL signal, or if that's also not feasible. Given the current time constraints and my location in Egypt, acquiring the recommended KIT-TPLSNIFEVB will take considerable time. Therefore, I was exploring if there's any alternative that could assist me in the meantime, such as using an oscilloscope.

Finally, I also have a question concerning the twisted pair cables used between the FRDMC33664EVB and the FRDMC33771BTLEVB boards. I am currently using Cat 6 Ethernet cables, which are twisted. Is this suitable, or is there a specific type of cable that I need to acquire for this purpose?

Thank you very much for your reply and your help. I am truly grateful for your support.WhatsApp Image 2025-04-21 at 23.32.19_14c49b4b.jpgWhatsApp Image 2025-04-21 at 23.32.19_14c49b4b.jpgWhatsApp Image 2025-04-21 at 23.32.07_a211bf6c.jpgWhatsApp Image 2025-04-21 at 23.32.07_a211bf6c.jpg
