ICODE SLIX RF Interface Authentication feature

Hi , after reading specifications of ICODE SLIX RF Interface , I didn't get clear understanding on "How to protect reading data from User  memory" while using this cards.

Does ICODE SLIX provide any features to avoid card cloning ? i.e. it can read data only after some type of authentication process.

Is EAS and AFI useful for above problem ? If yes , than please ellaborate.

Thanks,

Regards,

Vaibhav

Hi Vaibhav Panchal,

for Slix the Security Functions are the following :

  • EAS Protection
    • EAS: Electronic article surveillance which is more targeted to avoid shoplifting.
  • AFI Protection
    • AFI : Application Family identifier  it represent the application where the tag is being used.
  • Memory write lock
    •  which is self explanatory

if you need a tag for a security application I would recommend using our Slix2 or DNA devices,  they

have :

SLIX2:

  •    EAS Protection
  • AFI Protection
  • Memory Write lock
  • Memory access protection
  • Privacy protection

and the DNA version have this :

  • AES 128 Authentication and AES passwords to the above features.

Hope this is helpful, please let me know.

Thanks Jonathan ,

Some questions about SLIX2 type tags :

1. Does this tags have any NXP proprietary security protocol for authentication and ciphering, since on reader side  we are using ST25R3911B , so is there any problem while using this tags as we do not have this ciphering in ST25R3911B.

2. SL2S2602 : ICODE SLIX2 , is this perfect for my requirement ? We just read security before reading data so that no one without having password reads the data.

Thanks

Regards,

Vaibhav

Hi,

1 I am not sure I am getting correctly your question, but it is just a basic  password to protect the information there i no encryption at all. on the DNA it has AES 128 but the Slix is just a set of passwords.

2 correct

Hi Jonathan,

hope you and your family are safe and doing great in this pandemic.

for above my first question was explained as :

Actually we are using ST25R3911B Tag Reader IC with their RFAL library implemented. Now when we accessed MIFARE Classic 1K type of card with the reader, the reader detects the card but unable to read and write data from the card.

After doing some research on this we came to know that , in MIFARE Classic 1K cards , some authentication have to be done before Read/Write from the card i.e. we need to implement chiphering on our reader to read the data. So its a cumbersome process to implement that authentication process.

This was the reply from ST Electronics Member "Such tags require proprietary authentication before any memory operation (see datasheet from the manufacturer of these tags). If you want to use such tags with the ST25R3911B reader, you will have to implement this proprietary authentication and the ciphering."

So , now to avoid that we have selected "ICODE SLIX-L SL2S5002FUD".

So if we are not wrong the problem we are facing with "MIFARE Classic 1K" cards will not come in this tags,

since SLIX-L do not have any Read Access Protection , i.e. we can directly read or write data from the Tag memory ?
