I have a GT16A. I have always been using a serial cable to connect my GT16A to my laptop. I have never used debug mode. I have read a bit about it,though. I have only seen my lecturer use his Backgroung Debug monitor...
I have been told that it is possible to make your own Background Debug Monitor (i'm talking about the hardware). I cant afford to buy one

Can anyone, please, help me with the first step?

I would recommend the minimal JS16 version:
USBDM - Version 2 (JS16/JMxx Versions)
or
USBDM - Version 2 (JB16 Version)
but I'm biased
