In this class, we will go into a Sensor Deep-Dive, where each sensor will be visualized and explained in detail. When collecting data there are several things that can make collecting the data easier, more efficient, and avoiding erroneous data all together. We will have several demonstrations and examples to show the pitfalls and successes of collecting data.

Though cryptographic algorithms like AES are crypto-analytically secure, real implementations must at least be tested against logical attacks such as API misuse. Smart cards and similar devices also face fault and side channel attacks. Such attacks exploit physical effects to manipulate the device or learn about secret information. As these attacks are very critical, customers in the smart card industry ask for third party evaluation (e.g. Common Criteria or EMVCo) to confirm high assurance levels. If passed, a certificate is issued by a trusted party. With the rise of the IoT, physical attacks and respective third-party witnessing of resistance might soon be relevant there as well. This paper will examine the use of an i.MX 6 IOT Gateway working together with a Cloud Services Platform (CSP), to collect and transmit data from a temperature sensor. The design options for seamless data transmission from device, to gateway, to cloud and then to a hand-held Smartphone will be considered and presented using Mentor Embedded Linux, Nucleus as well as Cloud Service Platforms.
